When someone says to you "Western music", what do you think of? Well, I used to immediately think of "Country" music or "Country and Western" music (my favorite has always been George Strait!)
Well, after living in the West for the past 5 or more years, I have come to know Western music as not necessarily the popular Country and Western we hear most (although that is a major part), but more of the history of the Old West portrayed in song and instrument. Many of these songs or pieces of music speak of the hardships of the pioneers who came out West to start a new life in a very harsh and unforgiving environment. Many portray to the listener the feelings of joy and love and appreciation to their God for watching over them and blessing them. Many convey the spirit of overcoming great obstacles in order to build a home that would last through many generations.
These are not just "little ditties" or even folk songs, but ballads. Ballads to Heaven, to family, to ancestors and posterity, to the land they worked and which nurtured them. They convey the true spirit of the Old West. They are stirring, they are haunting, they are happy, they are tender, they are awe-inspiring.
Come and enjoy these works of art in the form of music and experience a little of the spirit of the Old West for yourself. Better yet, come out and visit us!
Our music Artisans include Dawn Davis, who, along with being a master horse trainer, is a fabulous musician who captures the Old West in her piano.
